"The City of Your Final Destination"

The City of Your Final Destination (2002) by Peter Cameron is a wonderful novel I read this summer in the Italian translation by Alberto Rossatti, entitled Quella sera dorata [Adelphi]. James Ivory has recently adapted the novel into a movie which had its world premiere at the International Rome Film Festival on Oct. 16, 2009 and which will have its American premiere at the Savannah Film Festival on November 2.
The book and film have a link with Italy due to a gondola, an abandoned object, and a book written by the recently deceased Latin American author Jules Gund, on whom the protagonist, the Iranian-born graduate student at the University of Kansas, Omar Razaghi, would like to write an authorized biography.

{Film rights to another Cameron's novel, Someday This Pain Will Be Useful to You, about a lonely and confused Manhattanite who believes he would be happier buying a house in Kansas surrounded by a sleeping porch than entering Brown University as planned and being surrounded by his peers, have been optioned to Jean Vigo Italia for a film to be directed by Roberto Faenza and to be shot in 2009}
