Federico Zeri was one of the great Italian art historians, well known in USA due to his work at The J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and The Walters Art Museum, Baltimore . In a will dated September 29, 1998, Federico Zeri bequeathed to the University of Bologna his house in Mentana, the collection of Roman epigraphs, the art library (some 85,000 works including art books, auction catalogues and periodicals) and the photograph library (some 290,000 photographs). In 1999 the University of Bologna established the "Federico Zeri Foundation".
