Puppets with Anger and Feeling. Dario Fo and Franca Rame: Their Life and Art (Pontedera, 4/17/10-6/26/10)

After the spectacle Dipingere e' come recitare (April 16, 2010)
Pontedera hosts the following exhibition in 3 locations-
Pupazzi con rabbia e sentimento. La vita e l’arte di Dario Fo e Franca Rame
- Otello Cirri Art Centre
- The Piaggio Foundation - “Giovanni Alberto Agnelli” Piaggio Museum
- Centrum Sete Sóis Sete Luas
from April 17 to June 26

"A rich corpus of works, made up of prickly, sharp and witty recollections of the most relevant events of the Italian social, political and economic history of the last 40 years, follows the artistic key-steps of the theatre by Dario Fo, a painter, stage-
manager, costumes designer, actor, play-director, writer, 1997 Nobel Prize for Literature, as well as by his wife Franca Rame.
In order to make the exhibition more original, seven Fo’s unknown paintings will be shown; for example, you will enjoy a self-portrait, that is a canvas in Giotto’s style taking inspiration from Leonardo’s Last Supper, which reminds of the prompt copy written for the show Lu Santo Jullare Françesco.
“In my life - Dario Fo says – I have drawn and painted in all styles and by all means. People very often ask me how I can find the time and the will of painting and drawing and I always answer: Any time! Above all when I am very happy, but also when I am down since I can’t express clearly my project or when I write a text … I often say: if I didn’t have the natural gift of telling stories through images, I would be a second-rate playwright, but also a mediocre writer of fables and satirical grotesque”."
