Raphael: Cartoons and Tapestries for the Sistine Chapel
Victoria & Albert Museum
September 8 - October 17, 2010
"Four of Raphael's tapestries for the Sistine Chapel will be shown for the first time alongside the full-size designs for them - the Raphael Cartoons, which have been on display at the V&A since 1865. Made almost 500 years ago, these are the only surviving tapestries designed by Raphael, and are comparable to Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel Ceiling as masterpieces of High Renaissance art. The exhibition will coincide with the visit of Pope Benedict XVI.
This exhibition is the result of a collaboration between the V&A and the Vatican Museums and is generously supported by Michael and Dorothy Hintze and The Hintze Family Charitable Foundation, with further support from the Patrons of the Arts in the Vatican Museums."
