Four Italian Films at 2008 Tribeca Film Festival (April 23 - May 4):
1. Toby Dammit by Federico Fellini (1968), a gorgeous new restoration-supervised by its cinematographer, Giuseppe Rotunno-of Fellini's adaptation of a Poe short story.
2. Once Upon a Time in the West (C'era una volta il West) by Sergio Leone (1968), a splendid new restoration of a "classic" that's still one of the most enjoyable movies ever made: Bronson, Cardinale, Fonda, and Robards; Morricone's unforgettable score; images of Monument Valley that rival John Ford's.
3. Quiet Chaos (Caos calmo) by Antonello Grimaldi (2008), based on Sandro Veronesi's widely read and translated 2007 novel, which offers one of the most compelling descriptions of this state of malaise afflicting an entire country.
4. The Tournament (Il torneo) by Michele Alhaique (2008), a short film about an outcast group of teenagers in the suburbs of Rome, who dreams of participating in a soccer tournament but does not have enough money to buy the team uniforms.
