These Phantoms: Italian Cinema Rediscovered

The new series of screenings and restorations of the 65th Venice Film Festival will be dedicated to 'These Phantoms: Italian Cinema Rediscovered (1946 – 1975)'.
The curators of the series, Tatti Sanguineti and Sergio Toffetti, have put together the project for the retrospective, which comprises the following:

- Una lettera all’alba (A Letter at Dawn) by Giorgio Bianchi (1948)
- Il grido della terra (The Scream of the Land) by Duilio Coletti (1949)
- La città dolente (The Suffering City) by Mario Bonnard (1949)
- Il cielo è rosso (The Sky is read) by Claudio Gora (1950), based on the eponymous novel by Giuseppe Berto
- Processo alla città (A City on Trial) by Luigi Zampa (1952)
- La donna del giorno (The Doll That Took the Town) by Francesco Maselli (1956)
- Leoni al sole (Lions in the Sun) by Vittorio Caprioli (1961)
- Una vita violenta (A Violent Life) by Paolo Heusch and Brunello Rondi (1962), based on the eponymous novel by Pier Paolo Pasolini [video 1, video 2]
and screen tests for Padre selvaggio (Wilde Father) by Pier Paolo Pasolini (1962)
- Agostino by Mauro Bolognini (1962), based on the eponymous novel by Alberto Moravia [video]

Some films will be screened in the presence of leading personalities (directors, actors, and scriptwriters), and accompanied by Goffredo Fofi’s [video] presentation and debate in the auditorium.
