65th Venice International Film Festival, organised by the Venice Biennale, will take place on the Venice Lido from 27th August to 6th September 2008.
- The great Italian master Ermanno Olmi will be awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime.
- The Board of Directors of the Venice Biennale, chaired by its President, Paolo Baratta, has accepted the proposal of the Festival Director, Marco Müller, and decided that the president of the International Jury for the Competition will be the German director Wim Wenders, who has formed close ties with the Festival over the years.
- International Jury for the Competition of the 65th Venice Film Festival.
On September 6th, the closing night of the Festival, the Jury will award the following prizes to the feature-length films in competition: the Golden Lion for Best Film, the Silver Lion for Best Director, the Special Jury Prize, the Coppa Volpi for Best Actor, the Coppa Volpi for Best Actress, the Marcello Mastroianni Prize for Best New Young Actor or Actress, the Osella for Best Technical Contribution, and the Osella for Best Screenplay.
- International Jury for Orizzonti, the section that has, for the past four years, focused on the latest trends of a cinema suspended between fiction and documentary.
The Jury will assign the Orizzonti Prize and the Orizzonti Doc Prize from among the feature films selected for the Orizzonti section.
- International Jury for the Corto Cortissimo section.
The Jury will award three prizes: the Corto Cortissimo Lion for best short film, the Premio UIP Venezia for best European short film and a Special Mention.
- International Jury for the Luigi De Laurentiis Award for a Debut Film.
The Jury will decide on the “Golden Lion of the Future” from among all the maiden feature films present in the various sections of the Festival.
