"An Italian worker who emigrated to Switzerland in the early 70s, Alvaro Bizzarri made two fiction films with an ordinary super 8 camera about his experiences, that were shared by thousands of immigrant workers. These two medium-length films will be followed by some other films he shot on 16mm. In their time the films were screened to immigrant associations, but also at numerous festivals and on television, Alvaro Bizzarri’s films still retain all their testimonial impact.
On the occasion of the release on 1st September 2009 of a double DVD containing 5 films by Alvaro Bizzarri, the Locarno Festival is organising a special screening devoted to this highly unusual personality. The programme will include Lo stagionale (The Seasonal Worker), a fiction shot in 1971 (50 min – super 8), as well as various extracts from the visual poem Pages de vie de l’émigration (54 min – 16mm – 1976)."
The DVD will be entitled Accolti a braccia chiuse – Lavoratori immigrati in Svizzera negli anni 70 – Lo sguardo di Alvaro Bizzarri.
